The Fool is a piece made entirely of painted, layered pieces cut from Trader Joe’s bags. The piece tells the story of the fool in Tarot. This card marks the beginning of every journey: the courage to follow one’s inner compass and, more importantly, to trust the source of that intuition. Intuition is not something we manufacture, instead it is something we become a conduit for, allowing it to take form in the material world. And when we honor those deep callings, it often unsettles those who are afraid to take their own leap. Judgment, fear, and criticism can surface—not because you are lost, but because you are moving.

The more authentic we become, the more we pass through seasons of feeling like the Fool. But only the Fool understands they are already on the path to enlightenment.

Like all my collages this piece is chalk-full of little wrinkles, folds, dabs of glue and other “flaws” that add character to the piece and bring life to it.
